Happy Birthday Phil.

Tommy Ramone, also known as Thomas Erdelyi (born Erdélyi Tamás, January 29, 1952 in Budapest, Hungary), is a Hungarian-American record producer and musician. He is the last surviving original member of the pioneering punk rock band The Ramones.

Edwin Thomas "Ed" Shaughnessy (born January 29, 1929) is a swing music and bebop drummer best known for his long association with Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Here's Ed battling with his friend Buddy Rich on the Tonight Show:
Happy Birthday Ed.
In anticipation of Phil Collins birthday tomorrow.
Happy birthday to the great Robert Wyatt (born Robert Wyatt-Ellidge, January 28 1945, in Bristol)

Robert was the drummer (and occasional vocalist) for the influential Soft Machine, a group that bridged the gap between jazz and psychedelic rock. In 1973, he drunkenly fell out of a 3rd story window during a party - an accident that left him paralysed from the waist down and subsequently confined to a wheelchair. During his recovery, he recorded his masterpiece, Rock Bottom) (produced by yesterday's birthday boy, Nick Mason). Unlike many of his peers, Wyatt has continued to create great music to this day.
Here's a young shirtless Robert in action with Soft Machine in '68:
Happy birthday to Nicholas Berkeley "Nick" Mason (born 27 January 1944 in Edgbaston, Birmingham, England). Nick of course was the only constant member of Pink Floyd, helping form the band in 1964.

Nick is also a race car enthusiast. Here he is with one of his many cars bought with Floyd booty:

Terry Chimes (born 25 January 1955, Stepney, London) was the original drummer of punk rock group The Clash. He originally played with them from July 1976 to November 1976, January 1977 to April 1977, and again from May 1982 to February 1983. He briefly toured with Black Sabbath from November 1987 to December 1987, and again in May 1988. Since 1994, he has practised as a chiropractor in Essex.
Happy Birthday

Mark Elliott submitted this well-done number saying "editing is everything."
Happy birthday to actor Jason Segal (born January 18, 1980) who portrayed Nick Andopolis in the short-lived series "Freaks and Geeks". Set in the early 80's, it is one of the finest shows about high school life. It is also one of the few shows where a main character is a drummer.

In the show, Nick is a tragic figure - first up he dreams of being a famous rock drummer, completely oblivious to his utter lack of talent (as seen in this opening sequence).
His romance to Linda Cardellini's character is one of the central plots of the series. It realistically runs from puppy love to creepy stalker. In this scene, Nick is staying with her family after their break up - he and her father have a bonding moment over drums.
Too early to put it on your Netfilx queue, but keep an eye out for Command Performance, a direct-to-video action film starring Dolph Lundgren as "a biker turned rock band drummer whose band goes to Moscow for a gig only to be caught up in a terrorist attack on a politician in the audience."
Shitty music is heard and stuff blows up. No word if Dolph did his own drumming, but he did direct the damned thing. Could this be the start of a trend for drummer-themed action films?

Happy birthday to Aynsley Dunbar (born 10 January 1946, in Liverpool, England). His impressive resume includes John Mayall, Frank Zappa, Lou Reed, Jefferson Starship, Jeff Beck, David Bowie, Whitesnake, Sammy Hagar, UFO, and Journey.

Happy birthday to the legendary Max Roach (January 10, 1924 - August 16, 2007).

Happy Birthday to the Kenny Clarke (born Kenneth Spearman Clarke, nicknamed "Klook", and later known as Liaqat Ali Salaam, on January 9, 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-died January 26, 1985 in Paris, France)

when in doubt ... baby drummers.
It's his birthday . . . according to wikipedia, Cutler "developed a technique using a "top-down" approach as opposed to the traditional "bottom-up" approach used by schooled drummers. Drummers are first taught basic patterns which are later combined into more complex patterns. Cutler learned the opposite way, hearing or imagining a sound and then disciplining his hands and feet to reproduce it. This "top-down" approach resulted in a unique style of drumming that pervades all of Cutler's performances and recordings."
Does that mean he would learn Terry Bozzio's drum parts, then go back and find the paradiddles?
Hm.
Yeah, right after he makes the loathsome comment about Napster, BAM!, he loses the game.
His crusade against those guys is just another of rock and roll's great tragedies, like Chuck Berry and CCR. It just wouldn't be rock without a fight or lawsuit (or an OD).
We saw him getting started on Who Wants to be a Millionaire, but how did he fare? Here's the exciting conclusion.
By the way, the show would have been more aptly titled Who's a Millionaire. All joking aside, I really like The Day That Never Comes. Good job, Metallica. You too, Lars.
Belated respects to Guy Warren aka Kofi Ghanaba, a Ghanaian drummer, best known as the inventor of Afro-jazz. He died December 22, 2008.
