Tomtomtime was first launched as a public access television program in 2003 . . . or was it 2004?
It aired first on Rhode Island Public Access channel 18 on Tuesday mornings, then moved to the coveted 10 PM on Statewide Interconnect A, channel 13.
The show is a no-frills, up-close look at all sorts of percussion. It is a celebration for, and devotion to essential rhythm.
The format of the show is simple. There's no interviewing or much talking at all, really. Only playing . . . and some video experiments set to percussive soundtracks. All types of ability and style are welcome.
In the first 15 episodes, the show has barely scratched the surface with about 50 performers from many different traditions. There are so many modes of expression, so many more traditions and instruments that belong on the show.
